摘 要：哈代的小说《还乡》与奥尼尔的戏剧《天边外》这两部文学著作都堪称悲剧经典。本文拟从这两部作品的主人公悲剧命运与地域背景两个方面来进行细致分析，比较它们之间的共性与差异，以加深对这两部作品的感悟和解读，探寻现代悲剧命运的共同根源，以研究人类获得幸福的途径。

Abstract: “The Return of the Native”and“Beyond the Horizon”are two classical Tragic literature by Hardy and O'Neill. This paper intends to carry out a detailed analysis from two aspects of the two works of the tragic fate of the hero and the regional background，comparing similarities and differences between them，In order to deepen the understanding and interpretation of the two works， exploring  the common origin of modern tragedy，In order to study human way to achieve happiness.
