Abstract

With the deepening of globalization and intercultural communication, Chinese films have entered into international audience’ eyes more frequently. Enjoying a splendid history heritage of more than five thousand years and taking exquisite and diversified character emotion as the themes, Chinese film has shaped many colorful and excellent works successfully, which helped it gain a firm foothold in fierce international competition.

Film, as an important method to transmit culture, has aroused attention from different countries gradually and the related industries have also been further developed. And the translation of film scripts, as the most basic sustaining condition for film’s internationalization, has also been at the center of many scholars’ research. Chinese film shoulders the responsibility of publicizing traditional culture and represents the reflection and anticipation of Chinese film man for the development of film industry in new era, which requires translation workers to devote more time and energy to improving it.

At present, Hollywood film is still leading the way on world film arena, and the researches of its related areas are all in full swing. However, the study of Chinese film English translation has not drawn adequate attention and there hasn’t been a widely-accepted theory. Such situation is an uphill battle for both the improvement of Chinese film itself and the enhancement of Chinese soft power. Based on the current situation, the paper analyzes the influential factors of Chinese film English translation, namely: language factor, cultural factor, political factor and translator factor, based on which the specific translation methods and strategies for Chinese film English translation are put forward accordingly, aiming to provide references for later researchers.
