Abstract

 The essay concentrates on Kingston's view on female subjectivity. This paper discusses what they suffer from racial discrimination and the patriarchal society. By comparing the 5 different stories about female’s growing, it points out that the racial discrimination and constraint from patriarchal society could possibly be conquered only if ethnic women gain courage to get rid of the shackles, being independent economically, and thus they can gain individuality and subjectivity.
