Abstract

This thesis analyzes the reason for Gatsby’s tragedy from the author and the story’s  background, and by discussing the main characters’ personalities and their experience, it has a deep study on the reason for the shattered American Dream. From it we can see Gatsby’s innocent and his pursuit for love, Daisy’s money worship and Tom’s cruelty, which decides their broken American Dream basically. The paper analyze the profound meaning of The Great Gatsby through analyzing the major characters, which aimed for better understanding of its connotations.
