Abstract: In today’s society, the social status and living situation of women are hot topics, especially for Afghan women. This paper mainly analyzes the three female characters’ unfortunate stories in A Thousand Splendid Suns to reveal the low status of Afghan women. This paper is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the social status of Afghan women before and after Taliban rule. The second part focuses on the manifestations of three female characters’ misery in the novel such as identity, education, health, marriage and ideology, to reflect the miserable situation of the general Afghan women.
