Abstract

Hemingway, as the most representative master of American literature, on whom President Kennedy gave comments: Few Americans than Ernest Hemingway on the American people’s feelings and attitudes has had a greater impact. Based on his colorful experience of life, Hemingway creates “dauntless men”, called code heroes by people. He uses many kinds of writing techniques to shape his heroes. In fact, every code hero has his own limitation, but the spirit of dauntless men and their attitude towards life, their value to the society are very worth exploring.

By interpreting the images of the heroes in Hemingway’s famous novels, this thesis will analyze the development of the images of code hero and the reasons for its evolution, therefore to explore the limitation of code hero and its significance to the modern society.
