Abstract

The names of Chinese dishes witnessed a distant origin and a long development of traditional Chinese culture, which is the cultural quintessence of Chinese nation, the essence of national language. The names of Chinese dishes，distinct representatives of Chinese culture, the English versions are important and outstanding on translating the names of Chinese dishes of the intercultural communication.

Based on the intercultural communication, this paper is mainly talking about the translation of Chinese dishes. First, briefing cultural differences, presenting the names of Chinese dishes, including the cultural differences, the conceptions of Chinese dishes,the classifications of Chinese dishes and the structures of Chinese dishes so on; Then,deeply analyzing the translatability and untranslatability of the names of Chinese dishes under cultural differences; At last, the English versions of Chinese dishes of the processes of the names of Chinese dishes translation, and giving the strategies of the translatability and untranslatability of the names of Chinese dishes. The paper aims at analyzing the translatability and untranslatability of the names of Chinese dishes and improving the quality of translation.
