Abstract

With the rapid development of the global economy, the links between countries in the world are increasingly close. As the largest developing country and second largest economy in the world, China has a heavy demand for English talents, especially applied talents. However, due to the enrollment expansion of colleges and universities, students ' comprehensive qualities and employment concepts, and etc., English major students are confronted with severe employment situation. In order to improve the employment quality of English majors, this study focused on the employment intention of the English major students from application-oriented undergraduate college.

 This paper first introduced the research background and significance, then reviewed the present situation of application-oriented undergraduate college and analyzed the employment situation of English majors from the current status, characteristics, employment intention and actual employment trend of students and factors influencing students' employment. Taking one of the application-oriented undergraduate colleges-Shandong Youth University of Political Science(SDYU) as an example, this paper investigated and analyzed English major students’ employment intention on the basis of administering questionnaire on students from SDYU. By analyzing the findings of the questionnaire, this paper discussed the students' employment intention and influencing factors, and then analyzed the reasons that affect the low employment rate of students and the enlightenment and significance of this study to the training of English majors in applied undergraduate colleges.
